| It had only been a few weeks since he had gotten the courage to ask Juliet out, he knew from the first moment he had seen her that there was something special about her. Riley had made sure to get to know her and become her friend, his time at camp had helped him become one of the leaders in the Ares cabin but lately he was on edge, everything he did was leading up to this moment and he was scared. Riley waited for Juliet near the Ares cabin and he fidgeted nerves getting the better of him.
What if she doesn't show? What if she thinks I am just some stupid Ares brute to full of anger to be worth her while. Why am I so nervous.
He looked at his watch and sighed, time was passing and he hadn't seen her yet. Maybe he had been a fool to think someone as beautiful as her would want to be with him. He heard foot steps behind him and when he turned around his breath caught in his throat, there she was his heart stopped as he smiled, "You look beautiful."

Nervous would have been an understatement if someone asked how Juliet felt. Her hair and makeup had been done for well over an hour, everything in place and perfect. Some of the girls from the cabin the minor gods' and goddess' children shared had tried to convince her that there was nothing to be worried about. It was just a date, and she had been on those before, right? Well, of course she had. They had all been with the sons of diplomats and ambassadors, people like her who only did it because it was good PR for whoever their parents represented. That, and she had always been surrounded by her father's security team. This would be her first time out on her own in her entire life. If you took all of that and added it to the particularly handsome Demi-God she was going with, Juliet was almost a mess. Riley was an amazing guy: smart, strong, good looking, and somehow a little less chaotic than some of his siblings. Usually Juliet avoided the Ares cabin like the plague to avoid the headache that inevitably came from being around too many of the war god's children, but Riley was different. Some days she wasn't sure if it was a lack of chaos, or if it was just a kind she could stand, but she liked it nonetheless. By the time she finally reached the Ares cabin, she was almost ready to turn back around. There was no way she desereved to be with a guy like Riley. She was too small, too shy, and definitely not fit to keep up with the standard Ares lifestyle. Her doubts faded away as soon as she caught sight of him, even more so whenever he turned to face her. "Thank you." She replied with a sheepish smile before crossing the remaining distance between them. "Happy birthday Riley." That was, after all, the occasion that they were leaving to celebrate. It was almost poetic that they shared a birthday, and the thought made her smile grow slightly as she looked up at him. Juliet's Outfit

| His smile grew as she wished him a happy birthday, they shared a unique connection with their birthday. He was exactly 3 years older than her, and that alone scared him but he was to focused on the gorgeous woman before him. "Happy Birthday Juliet." He took her hand in his and kissed the back of it before moving to stand next to her and setting it on his arm. "I am honored that you agreed to accompany me on this birthday celebration. I have a little surprise for you, do you trust me?"
He began leading her slowly towards the beach his heart was racing. Would she like the surprise? Would she laugh at him? He originally thought taking her out to a restaurant in New York was better and then he realized he wanted to do something a little more unique and thoughtful. The teasing that had been pressed in his direction from his brothers and sisters had him challenge several of them to sparing matches later in the week if they wouldn't shut up, tonight though was for her.
After a several moments in silence he broke through it with another question, "So how have you been adjusting to life at camp?" He cringed a little at how cheesy that could come across.

Juliet smiled up at Riley as he placed her hand on his arm and began leading her away. For a son of Ares, he could be gentle when he wanted to. "Of course I trust you! What's the point in a surprise if it's not at least a little secretive?" She teased, leaning against his shoulder and laughing at the thought. Of course, she wasn't very fond of surprises, but Riley wouldn't do anything reckless. At least, she hoped not.
"Camp has been great so far. A little too violent for my taste, but that's not necessarily unusual for me." Her fathers work tended to land them in interesting places with even more interesting conflicts. And, though she would never admit it, she should be used to even the worst of the campers by now. Conner, her father's head of security, was technically Riley's much older half brother after all. She hadn't known that until the attack that had lead her to camp, but in her heart she probably could've guessed there had been something different about the gentle giant. "Other than the training, I've adjusted well and seem to be finding my own way most days."
"How have you been though? I haven't seen you very much the past few days." Though it wasn't like they saw each other all the time, she normally at least saw him in passing. Even the normally easy going Juliet had been concerned that Riley had changed his mind and decided to ignore her. It seemed that her worries were unfounded, and for that she was grateful.

| "For someone as peaceful as you I could see how camp would be violent, though I have seen you take up the training despite your peaceful nature. You are talented and strong. I am glad that you are finding your way around easily enough." He continued to walk a few more steps before the beach came into view, he stopped her and stood in front of her looking at her.
He closed his eyes as he trying to settle his stomach and his rapidly beating heart. It would be time to see if she felt the same, at first this was a birthday celebration then he realized it would be the perfect first date but he wanted to pull it off and make it feel special and so the planning started, and a lot of cooking practice. Opening his eyes he looked at Juliet and began, "I have been angry, distracted, planing sparing matches and learning how to cook. Most of all I have been nervous. This night started out as a mutual birthday celebration before I asked you and then I realized that wasn't enough for me. I wanted it to be something more so I planned this night on the beach with you. So I have spent most of my time planning this evening."
As he had spoken he was leading her to the beach backwards when he finished he showed her the table for two, the candles and place settings. Another little table with the meal underneath it. He felt every emotion under the sun unsure as to how she would react to him and the desire to make this more than a simple birthday dinner at a restaurant or a simple first date. He wanted her to see just how amazing he thought she was, this was his heart laid out bare on the sand. He wanted to give them a chance as something more, if it didn't happen he was only praying this would not cost him her friendship.

Juliet gasped as the table came in to view, her free hand flying up to cover her mouth. It was absolutely stunning. No one had ever done anything like that for her in her life, especially not someone that she might actually have feelings for. "Riley..." She started, unable to find the words she needed to tell him how she felt. Instead, she hugged his arm and smiled brightly up at him.
Taking in the sight of what he had done in the relatively short amount of time since she had seen him, she pulled away from his arm so that she could see him fully. "It's beautiful." She whispered, having a hard time finding her voice still. Though she had removed her hand from it's former location, she still found herself doing something uncharacteristic. Tentatively reaching for his hand, she laced her small fingers between his bigger ones. It almost didn't shock her to find out that hers fit there perfectly, almost as if they had been made for one another.

| The weight on his chest lifted when she told him she thought it was beautiful. They closed the distance and he pulled out the chair for her and waited for her to sit before she pushed the seat in. He then went to where the food was covered and opened it up to a nice Caesar salad, freshly baked rolls and a chicken Parmesan dish. He set it in front of her and poured her a glass of nectar. "I hope you like Italian, it was the only thing that didn't burn, well that and the rolls." He smiled sheepishly as he took his own seat, the evening still had a fair bit of light so he held off on lighting the candles.
Raising his glass he said, "Here's to tomorrow and a new beginning together." he focused on his breathing, that wasn't the plan for the toast and yet it fit, well only if she thought it was a new beginning together.

Juliet beamed as Riley sat everything down, though she barely suppressed a giggle when he admitted to burning food. Not only did the thought count, but what he managed to come out of it with looked amazing. He had really put as substantial amount of effort in to this, and he had done it all for her. It was the toast, though, that absolutely took her breath away. For a split second, she wasn't sure how to respond. Was this his way of asking her something, or was he just being cliche for the fun of it? Either way, her answer was still the same.
"To a new beginning." With a nod of her head, she brought her glass to meet his before taking a sip. This night was turning out to be absolutely perfect, in her opinion. It was good to see Riley away from his siblings and the other campers. Though he was generally more calm around her, they still had a tendency to make her nervous. This was nice, the alone time. She could really get used to it.

As they ate in peace the sun began to set and he reached for the lighter so he could carefully light the candles with out interrupting the peace and quiet of the moment, he watched her carefully as he ate and he truly wondered how it was that he was able to find someone as special as Juliet. His normal hot headed nature seemed to calm just by being with her and a smile grew on his face what more could he ask for? This was the moment where everything started and to think this was the best gift he had ever gotten, a night with an amazing woman
"How are you liking your dinner Juliet?" He asked, still smiling brightly. "There are still a few surprises but they can wait a little longer, in this lighting you look even more magnificent and I want to make sure I never forget this night."

The candles added something to the atmosphere that she couldn't quite place. It made the setting more intimate in the fading sunlight, especially when Riley began to speak again. Gods, this man was perfect. "It's amazing. I'm actually not quite sure how you could've pulled all this off if you only learned to cook recently." She teased, reaching for his hand across the table. "It really is perfect Riley. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday." And according to him, there was more to come. "Though I am curious about what else you could have planned."

Riley smiled at her flattery, if only she knew how badly he wanted to impress her and make her see him as more than a silly older boy who wanted to just get him her pants. She was more than that and he just wanted her to feel special. When her hand touched his his heart sped up, she thought it was amazing and that made him feel like he could take on the gods himself. "You only deserve the best Juliet, and the rest of the surprise will start with a little music." Flipping a switch on the stereo hidden under the smaller table that held their food some soft music began to play and he let go of her hand to get up and move to her side, "May I have this dance?"

Standing up, Juliet turned to Riley and smiled. Wow. Yes, she had danced before, but not with someone like him, and definitely not on a night that was meant for her. She wasn't quite sure where boys like Riley came from, but they needed more of him ASAP. "I would love to." She whispered. Reaching for his hand. The only thing that confused her at this point was why. Why did this awesome guy so all of this for her? Did he want something, or was he just a nice guy? Part of her dared to hope that he really wanted more, but she was enough if a realist to know that he might simply be being nice since they shared a birthday.

Riley wasn't sure how he was going to broach the topic, especially now that he was distracted by the woman he was leading across the sand. Once the song stopped though he pulled her close and he closed the distance pressing his lips against hers in a soft kiss before he pulled away. "Umm I... that... I'm sorry I got carried away. I just wanted to know how it felt to... well..." he stumbled back a little and fell on his ass and started laughing, he really was a nervous kid at the moment, he just kissed the woman he was wanting to ask out and he blundered it like an idiot what else could he do to embarrass himself.

The brief contact between Riley's lips and hers stunned Juliet, but not in a way she would consider bad. It hadn't been what she had expected from someone like him. It was softer, more gentle, and she loved it. However, it seemed to be unplanned when Riley began to stutter over his apology before falling down in to the sand behind him. It was silly, but adorable. "I'm not sure what your sorry about." Juliet started before laughing along with him. "If anything, I'm a little disappointed that you stopped." A mischievous grin crossed her features before she settled in to the sand beside him, laughing harder as she did.

Riley stopped laughing when she said that she was disappointed that he had stopped, and as soon she she sat down he turned and captured her lips in and other kiss, still soft and tender but as he began to deepen the kiss he lightly picked her up and setting her in his lap. His hands settled at her waist, though with in a few moments they travelled up her sides barely touching her sides and then down her back. When he finally broke the kiss for air he said, "Gods, I've been wanting to do that for ages, well since you first arrived to be honest." His thumbs began to move in soft circles at her waist as he spoke, he loved this moment, the innocence and nervous excitement he felt was beyond anything he expected. Could this really be the day he actually asked her out, as more than friends?
