Help a Brother Out - Dante and Nathaniel

Dante sat patiently in the emergency room waiting for his brother Nathaniel to have a few free moments to take a look at his shoulder. It wasn't that bad he knew that much but he wanted to be sure as he didn't want to be a hinderance to his unit. He had a feeling when Braxton heard about this he might have to explain how he didn't move fast enough. He smiled at the thought and realized that he had enjoyed his run despite his small injury. He heard foot steps approach and smiled when he saw his 'older brother' approaching. He stood and said, "Do your worst!" he laughed then added, "I was out for a run when I got hit by an arrow, check it out didn't appear to have any real damage nor bone damage so I pulled it out. I just want to make sure it is all good I don't care if it leaves a scar."

Nathan had been finishing his rounds in the E.R. whenever a healer informed him that his brother was in the waiting room, apparently with an injury. It didn't quite surprise him, especially since Dante had joined the Garrison. Shaking his head at Dante's explanation, he motioned in the direction of an open room. "You would find a way to get shot while exercising. And here I thought we would have a grand story of some poor recruit shooting their commanding officer on the first day."

Once they were situated in the sterile white room, Nathan prepped himself before cleaning the wound to get a better look. "Your right, it's not that bad. It could heal on it's own, but it'll slow you down for a couple weeks. Want me to take care of it for you real quick?" It wouldn't be the first time, or likely the last, that Nathan had sped up the healing for one of his patients. There was not use in them suffering over something he could have gone in a few minutes.

Dante chuckled at Nathan's comment, it would have made a much better story, if only that was the truth. "Oh you know I would rather tell it like that, however, it really happened while I was running. One of Artemis' hunters was out there all alone and I was struck by her arrow. Seems like she lives out there from how she acted. At least I heard her releasing the arrow I moved enough so I wasn't hit worse than this."

He really didn't need to be slowed down for a couple weeks. "Thanks Nathan, I think it would be best if you sped up the healing. So how was your shift today?". He waited for the healing to begin wishing it wasn't needed, but thinking back to the luck he wondered why that girl kept to herself out there, this could happen more often if she didn't pay attention to the danger. Sighing he decided to wait and see what Owain or Brax thought about it before he made to much of a fuss over it.

"Have you seen Owain or Braxton recently I think I should let them know what happened out in the forrest."

"No problem. I'll get on it." Removing his glove, Nathan placed his hand over Dante's shoulder and focused on the wound. It was deep enough to take a few minutes, but it wouldn't hurt. If it had, he would've called in Healer Bryant to sit with them, not because his brother couldn't take it but because it was unnecessary.

The thought of Colonel Wyatt crossed his mind, causing him to shake his head. "I would avoid the Colonel today. He's a bit busy right now. I'd tell you why but that Agent with the knives may in fact kill me this time." Not to mention doctor-patient confidentiality. "I'd speak to the commander. A rogue hunter isn't someone to mess with."

As his brother told him he knew that something was going on with Braxton, he understood the need to keep it quiet. "You are correct there dear brother, personally I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. Magical arrows or not, they can only avoid you if there is time. Case and point my shoulder." He smiled a little, glad he could spend a little time with his brother as their schedules didn't normally allow for that at all. So much had changed in the last five years, to think it was Camp that had brought them together and it was gone now.

"So other than work how has everything else been? Life? Love? Emotional Stress that you just have to share." Hopefully it would allow Nathaniel to laugh a little, he knew that he remained faithful to his wife, but sometimes you see someone that you are interested in even if you can't act on it. "Sorry that was a little to far, still how are you holding up despite it all?"

"It's been interesting on the love front. Right as I was thinking about divorcing Jessia so she could move on with her life, an interesting development was made." Nathan said absentmindedly, not sure where exactly to go as far as the conversation went. Did he go on ahead and tell Dante? He should. The girl was practically his niece. "Do you remember Tylar? The girl Jessia has been fostering?" He had spoken of her from time to time, but she had only recently reached the island.

The wound was pulling nicely together underneath his hand, slowly but surely. It wasn't likely that Dante would even have a scar, but it was still fascinating to watch. If only he could do this for every injury.

"An interesting development with Jessia, well I am guessing part of the development is that you are not going to divorce her, but yes I remember you talking about Tylar as well." Dante thought for a few moments on what Nathaniel had said, about an interesting development and then bringing up Tylar, the young girl he thought of as his daughter since he and Jessia never had any children. What was so interesting with them at that moment. "Nothing bad has happened to them has it?" He realized that might be a reason his brother brought them up, but he was so calm when telling him. That couldn't be it at least he hoped it wasn't.

"No. Well, yes...in a way." Nathan wasn't sure if it was bad or not. Yes, Tylar was still upset, but she was safe now. It was better this way, even if Jess wasn't with them. "Tylar is here and not just on the island. She's a healer. I met her in the break room a few days ago." That had been an awkward encounter that he wasn't quite sure what to make of. "She's the daughter of a minor Goddess, not Apollo. Thank the Gods." That would have been strange, though he wouldn't have minded.

Pulling his hand away from Dante's shoulder to inspect the healing. Everything was almost done, it just needed a small push to finish off. Some days Nathan wished his power worked faster, but right now...he didn't mind. Brotherly bonding time was necessary every now and then.

"So you are saying that Jessia's foster daughter, the young lady you considered your daughter, is her on the island. It helps that she isn't a half sister as well, though that would be a very minor thing anyway." Dante then broke into a smile and placed a hand on his brothers shoulder, "You are truly a lucky man. Have you met her or spoken to her since she arrived?" Looking at his shoulder he was impressed to see just how good his brother was with his gift. He really had learned how to use it within his profession he was truly blessed to have such a brother.

Nathan nodded, replacing his hand on the almost closed wound. "I did. It didn't go well though. Jess still think I'm in Africa, so logically Tylar is defensive and irritated. She'll come around though." Alright, that was enough about him. "What about you though? How have you been?" Between their work and personal obligations, Dante and Nathan didn't see even close to enough of each other. It was something that he intended to remedy, someday.

Looking at his brother he nodded, "If she is as smart as you said she was then she will understand soon enough, after all she is here for a similar reason you are it is safer here and keeps Jessia safe as well." Once more Nathaniel's hand was on his wound. He felt the warmth that passed through his body as it stitched itself back together with the added power from his brothers gift. "What about you though? How have you been?"

Well he was still the bachelor, no one coming close to breaching that title. He chuckled a bit, "I am doing well, still wishing like you that I could have brought my family. My brothers and sister thought were the main reason I left seeing as my mother knows about dear Dad." He rolled his shoulder a bit and felt no pain, his brother was an amazing doctor with or with out his gift, "Romance wise no one at all, still the perpetual bachelor. Work keeps me busy I am usually training all the time.

"I bet it does. You should be all good to go now, though. Just try not to run in to any more hunters." The last had been meant as a joke, but it probably would be wise to not go running around in the woods any time soon. Just like that, Dante was good as new.

"Maybe I'll have to join you with training one day. I may almost be getting rusty." Back at camp, he hadn't minded the training exercises. That was a long time ago though and his place was here. Nathan didn't enjoy fighting like some of his siblings did, but he also knew that it was a necessary skill.

"You should come to the garrison some day and you can try and take me on in a hand to hand sparing match or archery contest." Dante winked and added, "Or we could make time and go for drinks later. Anything to pass the time after all it has been five years on the island. Though I would love to have all the time to chat more I should get going to speak to Owain about the rogue hunter. It was great seeing you and a little advice, give Ty her space but let her know that you are open to have a chat when she is ready." He hoped of the exam bed and did a few stretches again testing everything out, smiling at the result. "I think you fixed more than I thought I had wrong I feel nice and loose and ready to take on the world. Thanks again." He smiled impressed at the work his brother had done.

Nathan laughed at Dante's comments before opening the door to let him out. "I'll call you later and we'll figure something out." The advice sounded good, especially with the way she had reacted to seeing him. Maybe he would see if she was interested in meeting Dante sometime soon. Family time was good, right? And Dante was, in fact, family.

"Tell the Commander I said hello and, for my sake, remember to duck next time!" It was a joke, even if it was a bad one. He would have to look at his schedule to find time to spend with his brother, but it was definitely on his list of things to do. Maybe if he didn't end up pulling a double again, he could even try for tonight.

Standing at attention and saluting his brother he said in a serious tone, " Sir, yes, Sir! I will remember to duck." He then laughed as he relaxed to give his brother a one armed hug, "Oh don't worry I will let Owain know you say hello and what a good job you did fixing me up. Take care and don't work to hard." With that he walked out the door and headed out to the garrison. Though getting shot sucked, it had been a good use of time to catch up with his brother. As he exited the hospital he said a quick thanks to his father, who must have had a little something to do with his son's getting some time to connect. Even if not it was still a good thing to think of him from time to time.
