With the chaos from the attack passing and day to day life going back to normal, Melanie found her mind wandering back to a case file sitting on her desk. It had only been about a week since she had spoken to Magister Di Mercurio, but she still felt as if something should have been done for Thomas by now. That was why she had taken the liberty of contacting him in order to set the events in motion. Due to the nature of things, he had decided to forgo his own participation in the quest, sending someone else in his stead. Though Melanie highly approved of the Magister remaining on the island, she had mixed emotions about taking a private investigator out into the field at such short notice.
However, her biggest set back had been acquiring permission to actually leave the island. The Commander had already signed off on the mission, but the Chancellor had not, even though Ember Lynn had held the position at the time. Masin might be more receptive to the mission though, especially since the entire island knew how proud she was of her lineage. If anything, Melanie was worried about things starting off on the wrong foot between herself and the new boss because the boy hadn't been retrieved yet.
All of that lead her to sitting in a familiar chair outside the Chancellor's office, waiting to be seen. Her apparent partner in crime hadn't come in yet either, so she wasn't quite sure how to handle the situation. Hopefully they would be able to pull this off and be back within a few days. That was her plan, at least.

So, Adelaide was to go on a mission to rescue Magister Di Mercurios little brother. She was excited to get off the island for a little bit, but she was also incredibly nervous about getting back onto the mainland. She was asked by Geoff to do the quest because she had helped him with some things on the island beforehand, and it seemed to trust her skills.
She didn't really know much about Chancellor DeLisle, however, nor about her quest leader and partner Melanie Thorn. Still, she walked up to the Authority headquarters and was led to a chair outside of the Chancellors office. She waved once to Melanie before the door was opened. "Go on in, she's ready to see you," a voice said as the two girls were ushered into the office...

"Captain Thorn, Detective Moretz. Please take a seat," Masin was standing behind her desk, gesturing to the two chairs across from it. She sat down, awaiting the girls to sit, or not sit, before speaking again. "I'm to understand you are here about a rescue mission for DiMercurios brother, Thomas?" she kept her eyes fixed on the two women, but primarily on Captain Thorn, for she was the one who was leading this mission.

Nodding her greeting towards Adelaide, Melanie entered the Chancellor's office and sat as she was directed to. They didn't have much to discuss from the sound of it, but what they did would likely be interesting. "Yes Chancellor. Thomas Douglas has been confirmed to reside in a small town in Ohio. He show signs of not only being a Demi-God, but it has been suggested during an official conversation between my father and myself that Thomas might in fact be a son of Jupiter. Local weather patterns show signs of an emerging Atmokinetic, furthering that suspicion." Taking a file out of the bag she brought with her, Melanie flipped to a page full of weather charts and data before speaking again. "I can't confirm a correlation, but the activity has increased during the past few days, ever since the battle. I believe that it is important for us to leave as soon as possible, chancellor. The Commander has already signed off on the mission, we just need the green light from you, especially since Adelaide needs the clearance to leave the island."

Masin couldn't help but sit up a little straighter at the mention that Thomas Douglas could possibly be a son of Jupiter. She watched calmly as Mel flipped open the chart and showed her the weather chart. Mel had a good point, the boys powers had indeed been spiking and that could draw all sorts of unwanted attention...
"Permission is granted, Captain (or Colonel?) I agreed that this does seem to be a matter of urgency," she said, eyeing the file one more time before looking up at Mel. "I think you know how necessary caution is on this mission, Melanie. I trust that you'll make wise decisions before emotional ones," she continued, standing, "You have five days. If you don't have the boy by then, return here and we will assess the situation."
(Go ahead and skip Addie for this one if you'd like.)

(Mel is the director, generally just goes by agent. Captain is the correct equivalent though ) "If everything goes according to plan, we'll be back here with Thomas in three days." Melanie confirmed, standing as she did so. Well, at least the meeting had gone better than expected. "Thank you for your time Chancellor." With a small salute, Melanie walked out of the office and continued until she was in the hallway waiting for Adelaide. Sure they would need to talk and lay out the ground rules, but they had a long boat ride ahead of them to handle that. "So, ready to go? The boat leaves in twenty minutes and my gear is already there." Turning to size up the detective, Melanie tried to keep her expression neutral. At least Adelaide came highly recommended. Then again, so had Captain Jacoby and he was only in the field for twenty minutes before he tried to pet a chimera.

(Oh, got it! XD. Keep in mind, Addie is a hopeless romantic, so she's already thinking about Thomas that way bahah)
Addie listened carefully as the two women spoke, not bothering to speak up until it was time to leave. "Thank you Chancellor," she said after Melanie, giving a bit of an awkward bow before following Melanie out of the office.
"I'm ready, my gear is waiting for me at the dock offices," Addie said, nodding once. She took in the colors of the chancellors office, the shapes, the hallway. Addie was picking up on the details of things and people around her at rapid speed, every second. "Shall we?" the younger girl asked, gesturing to the doors that would leave them out.

Nodding, Melanie pushed the doors open and stepped out in to the sunlight. Luckily for her, the next time they set foot on land it should be night time rather than this blinding monstrosity they were currently in. There was a reason she worked at night after all.
Walking quickly to the docks, Melanie stood outside the offices for a split second before turning to look at Adelaide. "I'll wait for you out here. I need to make a call before we leave anyways and we're ahead of schedule." Stepping away towards a shaded part of the building, she pulled out her phone and dialed her brother's number, letting him know where she was and when she would be back. Before locking the phone, she also sent out a text. With her tasks completed, she turned off the phone and placed it in her bag, leaning against the wall as she did so. This was going to be harder than she thought.

She stepped outside, taking in the visual reaction of Melanie to the sunlight, the way that she walked quickly to the docks. This girl was ready to get going, and with good reason. Addie was glad she was able to join on this quest with her, saving some poor soul from the dangers of the mainlands and their enemies. When they stopped outside the offices, Addie nodded at Mels words and slipped inside, grabbing her bags. She waiting a few moments, to make sure Mel was able to finish her call.
She came back outside and soon the two were heading onto their boat, getting settled in. "So, what made Geoff decide not to come along?" Addie asked. She knew that he was busy, of course, but maybe Mel knew more about his reasons for trusting others with his brother rather then joining them.

"technically I didn't need an assist, no offense intended. This is a more personal thing though, so special permissions were given for the magister or another family member to tag along." Setting her bag down on a bench, Melanie sat down to where she could face Adelaide as she spoke. "When the attack happened it became evident that we would have to wait too long to go, so Geof instead chose a proxy. You came highly recommended to him. As for why you and not another agent or Garrison member, I'm not entirely sure. Maybe he thought your profession would come in handy out in the field."

Addie wasn't offended, she could tell that Melanie didn't mean anything by it. As Melanie continued to explain, Addie nodded. "Awe, I understand. Yeah, I we've become good friends and I'm sure the war has made him a little untrustworthy towards those he doesn't know as well," she agreed. "So, off to the mainland then?" she said, slipping comfortably onto the boat.

Almost as soon as Adelaide finished her question, the captain of the ship they were using to get to New York slipped below deck to make sure they were there and settled. The door slammed behind him as Melanie turned back to her companion and nodded. "We should be there pretty soon. Atmokinetics make things go faster. We'll hit New Hork early evening, drive to a safe house about halfway to Ohio, and then stay there for the night." It was a simple plan, but those were the ones that generally seemed to go wrong the fastest. If everything went off well, they'd be back on this boat in no time with Thomas in tow, so the risk was worth it.

As the day wore on, Adelaide watched the waves and contemplated this person they were saving. Thomas. Such a mysterious name in her book now. She pictured what he may look like. Thinking of Geoff minus some years and maybe different hair... she had no idea, and she was intrigued.
Soon, night fell and they arrived in New York where they prepared to head to the safe house, "New York," she sighed, moving next to Mel. Addie had only been at camp a few weeks before the attack, but she knew Mel had been there longer.
