Another twelve hour shift, down... Plus change.
It was hard to get away from the hospital, sometimes, considering she'd devoted her life to that and her family these past few years. There was always, always, something more to be done. Someone to make just a little more comfortable, or someone that was lonely and just wanted to talk. So it was more like...almost thirteen hours, barring any emergencies.
With a yawn, Arianna emerged from one of the building's doors, out into the light that was just beginning to burn to richer colours with the sun starting to set. With the light on her skin and a soft breeze to ruffle her hair as she pulled it from the bun she'd secured with a pen earlier that day - said pen finding a pocket to be clipped into - the blonde took a moment to revel in the light. The beginnings of her headache eased; it never fully energized her or took all the pain and discomfort away when she was afflicted by them, but it helped.
"Mmm, thank you~ Lovely evening." Arianna spoke to nobody in particular, per se, but she figured Apollo was listening, or could hear her.
She blinked, smile on her face, and looked around. It was a nice time of day, still quite warm but the heat of the afternoon was slowly slipping away. Perfect for her walk home.

As she started off on her usual path, she would notice someone on the bench ahead. He had the handle of a sword stuck up over his shoulder, but was otherwise in unassuming street gear. He would hum a little tune as he waited for her to get close before standing and walking with her. He stuck his hands in his pockets and grinned.
"Been a while since I walked home with you, figured it's a habit I should start up again."
He smiled, looking over at Arianna with no shortage of confidence. He was consistently that way with her- trying to give her some memory of Damien, maybe. He would take a deep breath.
"Woo....tell you what though, if my brother could see you in your doctor outfit....he'd be all over you."
He let his smile broaden into a grin.

Well, wasn't that a sight she hadn't seen for a while?
Arianna's lips remained in a curved smile as she meandered down the path towards the familiar figure. She slowed as she came within a few feet, letting him stand without rushing.
"That's a good thought~ I'll have to wag my finger at you if you skip out on me, then?" She returned the smile with a slight nudge before wrapping her arm around his back to give him a friendly squeeze, the limb falling back to swing at her side again. Her ears perked a bit as David spoke, and the doctor could feel her cheeks heat, but, she looked up at him and returned the grin. "Well, I have you here to remind me~"
Scrubs and a labcoat. Sexy? Well...she couldn't judge. It was what she wore to work every day. They were comfortable, a norm.
"I've missed our little jaunts together, though. I'm glad we're picking it back up~ How've you been?"
The last time they'd seen one another was the battle.

He chuckled at her question, having leaned into her hug a little.
"Kiyr came to see me last night."
Short, sweet, direct. To the point.

Whoa... Strange.
Arianna slowed down a little, her head tilting before she looked up at him.
"...oh..?" The blonde prompted, not knowing how best to proceed with this. She didn't think it would be like four and a half years ago, but, best to just hear what went on before anything else.

He half shrugged.
"She told me her side, and i listened, finally. Told her I forgave her because I thought the pain she went through was enough. I don't think she suspects I still love her or anything. I know, I'm such a wuss."
He stared forward, not looking over at her. It wasn't like this was new information for her. They'd had one too many drinks around each other over the years and both spilled their guts. Multiple times.
He sighed.
"Wasn't a long night."

Ah, the joy of being a middlewoman. She knew both sides, the entirety of it. Which was exactly why she kept out of it and didn't push either of them. It may have taken five years, but, they'd finally started something. Where it would end up was up to those two, stubborn as they were.
"Well... I'm glad and proud you listened." It was about time, really. "But, don't be so hard on yourself, you're not what I would call a wuss. Listening and talking was huge enough. Just...see how it goes, I guess?"
Arianna smiled, ruffling her hair, before asking an earnest question: "Need a hug, or just to talk?"

He snirked.
"No, i don't need a hug. Haha jerk."
He thought she was pushing his buttons a little, all in good sport. He would have done the same if he was in her position. He let out a little breath.
"I've bee angry at her for so long im not sure how or if i can be anything else. It would be...weird, I think, treating her any other way. Not fair, I know....but true."
He wasn't trying to be fair. He was trying to be honest.

"Showing empathy makes me a jerk?" She questioned, somewhat serious, but with just enough of a light-hearted edge to show she wasn't offended. But, she could give him a little dig in return: "So what does your behaviour make you?"
She quieted to listen with a thoughtful hum.
"Well. Just to throw it out there: if you're ready to treat her differently, if you've really forgiven her, you'll break the habit. I can't vouch how easy it'll be for you, but, that's what I had to do. Otherwise, I don't know...take it one encounter at a time? Nobody's saying you have to dive in and expect perfection the first time...well. Aside from you, maybe."

David would grin, shaking his head. There was that spice that his brother adored so much. And he couldn't say a word in argument, because it was truth hidden in snarkiness. He did expect perfection of himself. Without it, others could get hurt, or take advantage of him or people he cared about. It was his turn to lean into her, chuckling.
"Yeah yeah. I'll...go see her later this week, no need to beat me to death with it."
He though back to Scarlet, who said much the same thing but was far more obedient to his wishes. Arianna...not so much.

She shouldered the weight readily enough, craning her head to be able to look up at him.
There was a bit of a cheeky - but cheery - light to her eyes, and they crinkled at the edges.
"Well, if I thought it would have helped, I wouldn't have waited four and a half years." It wasn't her fault the pair were so stubborn. "But, since you mentioned it being later this week...maybe I'll have to~"

He would let his smile fade a little, then clear his throat.
"No....it was better for me to let her tell me, I think. Important steps and all that."
He had consistently felt disgusted at the thought of Kiyr being in his home but...now he didn't know what to think. Since Scarlet said what she did, opening his eyes, he didn't...quite know how to feel about any of it. It confused him, because he hadn't wanted to think about it. About her or his brother or....anything. He had so much he needed to do that focusing solely on that was....nearly impossible.
"I...wanted to ask you something, Arianna. I want you to join me in the Dragons."
Yup, throwing down.

"Oh, I know. That's why I didn't. You two can be too stubborn for your own good."
She reached up to give his arm a gentle pat. She knew. Just like she knew there was only so much advice she could give him. He would have to muddle around and find what he felt, himself, and how to go about this with his younger sister. They'd probably muck it up a bit, here and there, but...that was for the best, for them. They'd have to adjust to things, whatever it came to.
Her eyebrows shot up at the words.
"Sounds more like a statement, to me, David." But she knew. "Any changes since last time we spoke of the Core?"

David would chew his lip at they walked for a second or two before answering.
"Only that I've waited long enough. I've put it off for two years, because I've been afraid of taking the steps I need to move forward on it. I want to get started as soon as possible but....I can't ask you to join. If I ask, it wouldn't be fair. You might...feel obligated to join because of our friendship. So, yes, it was a statement. That I want you to join but...that I'm moving forward, and the choice will be yours."
He ran a hand through his hair smoothly.
"Before long, I'll be running this island, Arianna. I want you by my side...to keep me grounded."
He grinned. If anyone could do that job, she was the one.

"To smack some sense into you when you need it, you mean?" She smiled a little, despite it not being a joke. Not really. "I guess that also depends if you'd listen to me, even if I didn't join."
Because as far as she was concerned, if that wasn't a factor, then it didn't matter if she joined or not, aside from the issue of showing solidarity. And, if things improved between David and her sister, then she wasn't going to be the only one to be able to keep David "grounded".
